The New Kharkan Republic is a presidential autocracy that came to be after the Fourth Deryzian Civil War which occurred five years after the onset of the Amanita Crisis. Though named as such, it was more akin to a violent and rapid takeover by Kharkan Nationalists scheming in the dark, who were assisted with subterfuge in high places by the Sanguine Church, though this fact is lesser known.
The advent of the Fourth Civil war came with a string of assassinations within the High Council and a swift pummeling of the Mage Corps by various belligerents, with the Kharkan Nationalists employing their own mages and paramilitary forces. In a monstrous display of power, Reze Volkov obliterated the Dominion Grand Palace with one immense, centralized explosion, and with it the symbol of control over the former Dominion. From there the New Kharkan Republic rose.

Kharkan Nationalists are a political group that take after Nikola Kharkov, one of the warlords who were defeated and joined up with Dryzios Valus in the formative years of the Deryzium Dominion. They are currently lead by Reze Volkov, a highly powerful individual and descendant of Kharkov whose abilities seem to be beyond current magical understanding, or simply not within the realms of leyline study.
Though most of the former Dominion society has remained unchanged, a greater overall focus on mass industrialization, an even stronger sense of nationalism, and rapid military growth have taken the forefront of reforms. Arenas have also become a much larger part of the New Kharkan Republic with direct government funding and advocacy per Volkov's cabinet, which consists of the four former Arena heads. The rules have also been amended to allow for more bloodshed. The nature of the shift of control has instilled a great sense of fear into the now-Kharkan populace, as well as a swell in unrest for the Empress' supporters.
